I have built a tent platform up in the woods out of concrete blocks, wood pallets, and ply-wood. The platform now has a four person pop-up tent standing on it and a tarp suspended over the whole set up to keep sun, leaves, and rain off. This will be my summer home away from home. Inside there is a futon with a memory foam mattress topper, flannel sheets, a small set of shelves for clothing, and a plastic tote of rafting gear all neat and tidy. Outside is a camp chair, a small clothes drying rack, and wooden box full of coffee making apparatus. Tonight is the first night of the season in the tent. I watched the sun set, then curled up to sleep under the cozy warm blankets. Through the window screen, I watch the stars appear above the still leafless trees. I hear something moving through the leaf covered ground, probably a dear. Eventually, I drift off to sleep, a perfect setting for a good night.
